Make the changes you want to see in the world. With the Bachelor of Global Studies, you’ll be able to analyse and break down global challenges, and formulate innovative solutions. This course has been designed for students who want to apply their knowledge and lead social change.
You will be able to expand your learning through one of four specialisations:
- Cultural competence
- International Relations
- International Studies
- Human rights
Integral to the course is a compulsory overseas study component – you have a huge range of countries and international opportunities to choose from through the Global Immersion Guarantee, study tours, or by studying at one of our prestigious partner universities.
The overseas study will give you a more thorough understanding of current challenges facing the global community, and you will develop outstanding skills as a leader and communicator. This will place you in an exceptional position to pursue a career in fields such as politics and government, the environmental sector, international development, foreign affairs, international relations, trade, defence or with non-government organisations (NGOs).
There's also the opportunity to take an internship in a professional working environment. The combination of academic and on-site learning will equip you with skills demanded in the rapidly shifting global environment, such as creativity, communication, cross-cultural collaboration, critical thinking and teamwork.
The Bachelor of Global Studies will give you a rich understanding of the interplay of local, regional and global forces. It will equip you with sharp analytical abilities and the ability to communicate flexible, imaginative and well-informed disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches. These together will enhance your capacity to lead social change.

Extend your studies of leadership, culture and globalisation by focusing on communication across cultural borders. By studying one of eight internationally important languages – Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean or Spanish – you’ll deepen your cross-cultural skills and knowledge. All languages are available for beginners through to those with proficiency. You’ll also study topics such as managing intercultural communication, and the skills you build will enable you to apply your knowledge in real-world contexts.

You need to satisfy all of the following requirements to be considered for entry into this course.
Qualifications
Equivalent Australian Year 12
Bachelor/Masters degrees
High achieving students can progress into the Master-level units at the completion of 96 credit points (end of 2nd year full time).

The course develops through two themes, which will provide you with interdisciplinary approaches to addressing the key challenges facing the global community and in-depth expertise in a specialised area of study to enable you to effect change.
Partner with another course
Double degree courses allow you to study towards two different degrees at the same time, and graduate with two separate qualifications. And because a required subject in one course can count as an elective in the other, our double degrees take up to two years less than if you studied for the two degrees separately.

Current Monash students
You may apply to transfer from another Monash course. Transfers are a competitive process. You may apply mid-year for available courses however consideration will be given as to whether you will be able to follow your course progression.

Commonwealth supported place (CSP)
Commonwealth supported places (CSP) are available for this course. The student contribution amount for 2021 is yet to be confirmed by the Australian government. Fees to be advised.
Full fee
Fees are per 48 credit points which represents a standard full-time course load for a year.
