Medical Science and Medicine - M6011
The Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (MD) course is a five-year program of study with direct entry from high school. The first two years are campus based and the final three years are hospital and community based.
We are the only Victorian university to offer a direct entry medical program for students completing year 12 as well as a graduate entry program leading to the same degree – Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (MD).

You will have access to the largest healthcare provider network in Australia, which includes the Monash Medical Centre and The Alfred, Melbourne's major casualty hospital.
An emphasis on clinical communication skills and hands-on experience with clinical visits to medical practices, community care facilities and hospitals, is a feature of the Monash course.
Our MD Program
Our main focus is on improving outcomes for patients by making sure that medical students are strongly connected with our academic experts and clinicians.
- Variety of learning styles Learning modes include lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials and simulation sessions.
- Research component You will undertake a scholarly intensive placement under the supervision of a researcher or clinician.
- Integrated case learning (ICL) ICL sessions are small group tutorials that are structured around a clinical scenario.
- Professional Development Professional behaviour, and its importance in health service delivery, is nurtured along with the development of other skills.
- Early clinical exposure Interact with healthcare professionals through a variety of medical contact visits to hospitals and community clinics from early on in your degree.
- Simulations and clinical skill workshops Simulations and clinical skills workshops are designed to provide practical hands-on experiences and authentic scenarios from clinical practice.
- Final year training The final year of the course is based upon a trainee internship model.
Graduate entry medicine
We also offer a four-year graduate entry pathway into our medical program, if you’ve completed an approved undergraduate degree.
Accreditation
On completion of the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (MD) you are eligible for provisional registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and the Medical Board of Australia. After serving a compulsory internship year of residence in an approved hospital, you become eligible for final registration in Victoria and other states of Australia.

Entry Requirements
Entry Requirements (International students)
You need to satisfy all of the following requirements to be considered for entry into this course.
At the time of enrolment in a course at Monash University, you must be at least 17 years of age.
All Monash undergraduate courses require you to have successfully completed a minimum of an Australian Year 12 qualification (or equivalent) and achieve the required academic entry score. Most Monash faculties generally use your most recent studies for admission however other guidelines may apply where your prior qualification may be considered.

The English measures outlined above must be completed within 3 years prior to the Monash course commencement date (other time limitations may apply as outlined in the Admission to Coursework Courses and Units Procedure). If you have completed several measures of English proficiency over a period of time, the highest valid measure will be accepted.

Courses with maths and science prerequisite subjects
For Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine you can still meet the VCE Chemistry prerequisite if you have completed other qualifications; however subjects completed in your prior studies will be assessed to the equivalent VCE level (including the required score) when you apply.

International fee
Fees are per 48 credit points which represents a standard full-time course load for a year. The fees for 2026 are:

Please note that Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) in the Medicine Program (M6011 & M6018) are capped by the Federal government. If a student changes their residency status to permanent residency after commencing the course, their fee category will change to domestic full fee paying. This fee category is only slightly less expensive than international student fees, and CSP places will not be made available. However, as an Australian resident, you will be allocated a higher priority group in the PMCV intern match for Victoria. This means you are more likely to secure your preferred working location upon graduation if you are applying for an intern position in Victoria.

Enrolment Obligations
International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students must enrol in at least one unit that is not by distance and/or online in each compulsory study period unless the student is completing the last unit of their course. See standard 8.19 and 8.20 of National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2018.
