Use the Feedback activity to survey students about their assessment preparation
You can use a Moodle Feedback activity to learn more about how students use the University resources and tools to produce their assessments. Create your own questions(non-graded) to conduct surveys and collect feedback. You can then use this information to calibrate support and assist students in the ethical and critical use of relevant tools and technologies.
The survey should takes less than 2 minutes for students to complete and contains two key parts:

Students can complete the survey in the process of submitting their assessment.
What tools and technologies are students using?
Supporting and assisting students in the ethical and critical use of tools and technologies is crucial. This approach is based on questioning what we know about the tools students are using to produce their assessments. It's something that many Monash educators are already actively exploring, including Associate Professor Ari Seligmann, Associate Dean of Education, Faculty of Art Design & Architecture (MADA).
In the following video, Associate Professor Ari Seligmann provides an overview of the assessment survey and its use within the assessment submission workflow.
How to add the Assessment feedback survey
- In your Moodle unit, turn editing on.
- In the topic section where you want to add a feedback activity, select Add an activity or resource.
Note: It is recommended that you place the Feedback activity after the related assessment activity.
- Select Feedback and then Add.
- In the Name and Description fields, give your feedback a title and an introduction. The Description will be displayed when students open the feedback activity.
- From the Templates tab, select Assessment survey from the Use a template drop down menu.
- You will be able to preview the questions in the template and you will be prompted to:
- Delete old items: Replace current feedback questions
- Append new items: Add template questions to existing questions
- Select the relevant option and then Save changes.
- The Assessment Survey will now be available for students in your Moodle unit.
Note: By default, student responses will be anonymous. If required, you can enable student names to be recorded with their responses under the Question and submission settings in the feedback survey activity settings, which can be found under Edit settings cog.
NoteTo encourage students to complete the feedback survey, you may wish to restrict access on the subsequent assessment activity unless they have completed the feedback survey. For more information, explore Restrict access to a resource or activity. |
