Embed quiz questions
You can embed formative quiz questions in Moodle with the ATTO text editor. Embedded quiz questions are not linked to the Moodle Gradebook so they are recommended for formative assessment activities to consolidate and/or reflect on learning. For example, you could embed a quiz question directly in a forum. Students could then discuss their solutions, reflect on the solutions of their peers and come up with their own model answer. You can embed many question types, except for the Essay question type.
Multiple quiz questions can be embedded in one page, however this may result in slow page loading times. It is recommended that you use the Moodle Quiz activity or create a Combined question to combine multiple quiz questions into a single question.
Before embedding quiz questions ensure that the quiz question you wish to embed:
- exist in the Question Bank of the Moodle unit where you wish to embed the question.
- has been assigned an ID number. For more information see Manage the question bank.
- sits within a category that has also been assigned an ID number. For more information see Manage the question bank.

Note: Answers for embedded quiz questions are NOT stored. If a student navigates away from the page after they have attempted the quiz question and returns later, the quiz question will be reset.
