Set up Continuing Professional Development
Some courses include an obligation of recording Continuing Professional Development (CPD). The Monash ePortfolio allows you to create a log of CPD activities.
Administrators can create new Experiences in the ePortfolio - this is the name given to the full program of activities that is being tracked. At this level, they can set a total number of hours of experience to be logged, which may include both a minimum and maximum.
The Experience can then be divided into Categories, which can have their own maximum and minimum hour allocations, and an expected number of personal reflections on activities written by the student. Categories can have Subcategories, with the same available settings. Activity hours can be assigned to either the subcategories, or to the parent category, if allowed.
Once the Experience is set up, you can can create and share templates with students, who can then add CPD activities, including details on the time spent, contacts and other details, and reflections. High level overviews can then confirm when students have met their CPD requirements.
NoteCreating a CPD experience can only be done by Administrators. If you believe your course needs a CPD experience set up, please contact your Faculty support staff. |
Create a CPD template
To streamline the process for students logging their CPD activities, teachers can make a CPD focused template for students.
Watch the video below to learn more (4 min 35 seconds)
- Create a Page or Collection as needed. For more information see Create page. Ensure that Template is set to Yes.
- Populate the page(s) with CPD-focused blocks, and other instructions and support materials as needed. The CPD focused blocks are:
- CPD Overview: Provides a graphical overview of the total hours logged, as well as hours logged in categories and subcategories. If compulsory reflections are included, they will be listed here as well.
- CPD activity block: A more detailed listing of CPD activities, showing the hours assigned to an activity, with all other details under a dropdown. This block can be configured to display all activities, or only activities assigned to a selected Category or Subcategory.
- Once your template is ready to share, click on the share icon in the right hand menu.
- Expand the Advanced Sharing settings, ensure you set Allow Copying to Yes. For detailed instructions, see Share template.
- Once finished, click Save.
- Once shared with students, they will be able to begin adding CPD activities. For more information, see LearnHQ: Logging Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities.
