Check and adjust your email and Moodle notification preferences so you receive messages sent through Moodle, including forum posts. Learn how to enable email notifications, manage forum notification settings and set up a daily digest to consolidate forum emails into a single message.

This guide covers how to check forum email notifications and set email preferences for other Moodle activity notifications. If you are not receiving email messages from the messages that are sent to you in Moodle, check your account has email notifications turned on. If you still do not receive messages, check your Forum notification preferences.

By default, you will receive separate notifications for each post made to a forum to which you're subscribed. You can also choose to consolidate forum email notifications into a daily digest that rounds up all forum notifications into one email each a day (around 5PM).

Click on your user profile in the top right hand corner and select Preferences from the drop down menu.

1. Select Message preferences.
2. Under notification preferences, make sure the email setting is switched on(Blue).

2. First, ensure that the Disable notifications checkbox is not ticked. If ‘Disable notifications’ is checked, you will not receive notifications in Moodle or via email for any system settings and Moodle activities.
3. From the notification preferences page you can choose how you receive notifications for various system settings and moodle activities.
4. For example, to receive email notifications for forums, ensure that the button in the Email column for “Subscribed forum posts” and “Subscribed Open Forum posts” is switched on (Blue).
5. If you switch on Web notifications (by switching the button to Blue in the web column), new notifications will be indicated by the bell icon displayed with a red dot in the top right icons in Moodle. Click on the bell icon to view notifications. You can click on the tick to mark all notifications as read, or click on the settings cog (highlighted) to quickly navigate to the Notification preferences settings page.
6. Once changed, your notifications preferences will automatically be saved.
By default, you will receive separate notifications for each post that is made to a Forum to which you're subscribed. You can choose to consolidate forum email notifications into a daily digest that rounds up all forum notifications into one email each a day (around 5PM).
Note: This will only change your personal user forum digest settings, not settings for students in your Moodle unit.
1. Select Forum preferences.
2. For Email digest type, you can select the type of digest from the drop down list.
3. Once finished, click Save changes.

Note: Any posts made in the Announcements forum will automatically send you a separate email notification, even if you have enabled daily digest notifications.
