Design active learning
When you are designing the learning experiences for students, consider how you will make the unit more active and provide opportunities for students to engage on multiple levels. The goal is to look at the unit holistically and see how the activities intertwine and interact with other activities, the content, the assessments and the learning outcomes. Similar to creating an assessment regime where you map out all the assessments, you will want to think about your learning outcomes and how you can contextualise them with engaging, real world applications while also enabling meaningful interaction and knowledge building.
Active learning approaches
There are a number of different active learning strategies and task types you should consider when determining what will best capture your learning outcomes. If we treat ‘active learning’ as a broad approach to pedagogy generally, we can see a number of ways to design the environments where this deeper learning takes place in both individual and group work situations.
