Communicate about academic integrity
Academic integrity education often lacks comprehensive information and vital conversations about values, risks to integrity and the dangers of assessment outsourcing in favour of a focus on plagiarism and referencing. It is important to develop academic integrity competence and related skills in students, which includes clear, specific communication and education about academic integrity as well as dishonesty (Sefcik et al., 2020).
‘We cannot expect students to act in ways that are respectful of academic integrity if we don’t explain what it is, why it is so important, and teach in ways that reflect its importance’. (Sefcik et al, 2020)
Four strategies for embedding academic integrity in teaching and learning
