Using the Monash Professional Development Education Platform

The Monash Professional Development Education (Monash PDE) Platform is an end-to-end learning platform for the provision of Professional Development Education programs across Monash University. It sits on a product called Guroo Academy, provided as a managed service by Guroo Learning and Enterprise Education. Monash single-sign-on is available.

Professional Development Education courses (short courses, microcredentials) are built on the Monash PDE platform, rather than in Moodle. The platform has a range of features that support asynchronous learning, teacher notifications, and student management.

Program roles and permissions on the Monash PDE platform

The assigned roles on the platform determine what you can see and do within your program and the wider Monash PDE platform.

Platform Admin	Enterprise Education level access (highest admin level access).
Coordinator	Coordinators have the highest level of permissions and have full access to the program content, settings and delivery features.
Facilitator	This role is intended for Facilitators who take an active role in delivering a program. For example, they add resources, post announcements, mark assessments and tasks, or grade the program.
Guest Facilitator	This role is intended for Facilitators who DON'T play an active role in delivering a program. For example, they don’t need access to view tasks, comment on tasks, add resources, or view program reports and transcripts.
Learning Designer	This role is intended for program designers/builders who don’t need access to the program delivery, set up and enrolment settings.
Learner	Access the program content and complete activities as a program participant.

Building your course

In building your first course on the Monash PDE platform, you will work closely with the Guroo Learning team. Additionally, there are self-build options for those who are adept at building courses. Enterprise Education can assist you in determining which solution is right for you.

Guroo Academy: Learning Content and Design

Guroo.Pro

Guroo Learning offers an authoring tool to create interactive experiences called Guroo.Pro. It is similar to commercial authoring tools such as Articulate, but it allows a closer integration with the Monash PDE platform, meaning you can get more detailed statistics from students' interactions. This product is separate from the PDE Platform and must be licensed individually.

The Monash PDE platform is structured as a series of action-oriented pages, which can be accessed using the left hand side menu icons. The menu bar can be displayed collapsed as icons or expand to display the page names. Pages give information about courses you are attached to, actions you need to take, statistics, and other information. Your roles on the PDE platform will affect which pages you can access.
