Feedforward

The Feedforward Bento Box helps you gather meaningful student feedback early in the semester, while there is still time to act on it.

Designed for use in Week 3 or 4, this Bento provides a structured way to check in on students’ learning experiences and identify practical improvements you can implement immediately.

“The Feedforward Bento gave me a clear, structured way to gather student feedback and respond to it during the semester. It helped create an open dialogue where students could see that their input led to real changes.”

Dr Joyce Zhang, Faculty of Business and Economics (Department of Accounting)

The Bento includes:

  • A pre-populated Moodle questionnaire aligned with QILT Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching
  • A structured process for reviewing student sentiment
  • A ready-to-use template to communicate back to students what you heard and what will change

By closing the feedback loop within the semester, this Bento supports responsive teaching and strengthens transparency, trust, and engagement in your unit.

Instructions for setting up your Bento Box

1
Step 1: Prepare content

Review how to edit a Moodle Questionnaire and take note of the types of questions you can create. Prepare any additional questions that you would like to ask students about their experience in your unit.

2
Step 2: Update Activity introduction

You may want to edit and add a completion date for the questionnaire and a release date for the Improvement plan in the Activity introduction (text and media label and file).

3
Step 3: Set up the Moodle Questionnaire

Take the time to familiarise yourself with the set of 9 sentiment questions in the Moodle Questionnaire. The purpose of these questions is to receive feedback from students early in the teaching period to then improve teaching delivery during the semester.

To edit the questionnaire:

  1. Open the Questionnaire activity.
  2. Use the tabs, located above the text box.
  3. Use the Settings tab to edit the description of the task. It is suggested that you add a completion date for the Questionnaire and indicate in which week the Improvement plan will be shared.
  4. Use the Question tab to edit and add additional questions. To edit a question, click on the cog wheel located above each question text.

For more information about Questionnaire, please access the Questionnaire guide on Teach HQ.

4
Step 4: Set up Task 2: Feedforward improvement plan (Text and Media Label and File)

Complete the following steps after the questionnaire is completed (usually a week later):

  1. Return to the Feedforward Activity and ensure you have editing mode turned on.
  2. Download the Powerpoint ‘Feedforward Improvement Plan’.
  3. Review the responses in the questionnaire.
  4. Edit the Powerpoint file to represent results gained from the questionnaire. Include the improvements that will occur. Save the updated slides in a PDF format.
  5. Move the ‘Feedforward Improvement Plan’ text and media label to the week you will be sharing the results of the survey, under the Real-Time section.
  6. Unhide the label.
  7. Underneath the label, upload the Improvement plan as a PDF for students to view.
  8. Discuss the Improvement plan in class with your students.

Note

This Bento occurs over two weeks so you will need to revisit your Moodle site to collect the data, create an Improvement plan and upload it in the current teaching week.
