Hide or reveal grades

You may wish to hide or reveal grades and feedback for assessment items to students. You can do this via the grader report or the Gradebook set up page. Expand the accordions below for step-by-step instructions for each workflow.

1. Click on the Grades in the top banner menu. By default, you will see the Grader report.
2. Ensure you have turned Edit on in the top right corner.
3. Click on the three dots next to the:
  1. Category folder: To hide activity’s grades and feedback for all activities within that category folder.
  2. Activity name in the header row: To hide activity’s grades and feedback for all students for that activity.
  3. Individual grade in the student row: To hide the individual activity’s grades and feedback for an individual student.
  Note: Once an activity has its grade and feedback hidden, in the grader report it will appear with the crossed-out eye icon.
4. To reveal grades and feedback, click on the three dots again and select Show.
  Note: If the assessment item has been hidden at a high level in the control row, you cannot click Show for individual student grades and feedback. Make sure you first click Show for the activity in the header row.
5. When you are finished, click Save changes.
Note: After results have been validated in Manage Results, editing the visibility of a grade item via Gradebook Setup will be restricted and not available. However, the visibility of items can still be adjusted via the Grader Report.
1. Click on Grades in the top banner menu.
2. Click Grader report and then select Gradebook setup from the dropdown list.
3. For assessment items that have their grade and feedback hidden, you will see a crossed out eye icon in the status column and the name of the assignment will be greyed out.
4. For the assessment item you would like to reveal grades for, click the cog in the settings column.
  1. To hide grades and feedback, tick the grade and feedback hidden checkbox.
  2. To reveal grades and feedback, untick the grade and feedback hidden checkbox.
5. Click Save changes.

Note

The Unit total and some grade items like the eAssessment sync grade item and the Final exam grade item cannot be unhidden by any user in the Gradebook.

For some activities, whether the grade item is hidden is controlled by the activity settings. For example if the "Mark" and "Maximum mark" review options are disabled in the quiz settings, quiz grades cannot be unhidden in the grader report or gradebook set up.
