Moodle setup - Supporting your students

How to support your students

For some students Moodle might be a completely new way of accessing their learning units and content, especially for a first year undergraduate. It is recommended that you provide students with resources or links to support their use of Moodle.

Structure your Moodle unit in an easy to navigate way

Spend the time to set up your Moodle unit and create a user-friendly navigation and learning pathway for students to easily access the course materials and know what is expected of them.  This helps reduce the cognitive load and scaffolds their learning. Visit Structuring Moodle for some helpful strategies.

Tell students how to navigate the Moodle unit

Provide students with documentation or a video on how to navigate the Moodle unit and where to find key information. Let students know where they should go in Moodle to get announcements or where they can access all their assessment resources. As an alternative, you can take the first class to walk through the Moodle unit and answer any questions.

Provide students with resources on using Moodle

Student Academic Success developed some helpful resources for students on getting started with Moodle. These resources help students familiarise themselves with the platform. You can share these in Moodle or send an email to students prior to the beginning of classes so that they can familiarise themselves with the platform.

What resources and services are available to students

Here are some resources that you can share with your students in your Moodle Welcome/Overview page.

Learn HQ: Moodle
