Unit information

This tab displays a number of pre-populated sections including unit synopsis and learning outcomes. There are three sections that can be customised for the unit.

Unit Welcome is the first time the student will meet the Chief Examiner and learn more about the unit as a whole.

Unit resources is a place to augment what might already be listed in the handbook as requirements for this unit. This could include a full reading list, other recommended readings, software or hardware requirements.

Teaching approach will be an important section for the student to understand how the unit is structured. Expand on how the material, activities and interactions will be laid out in the unit while giving an overview of the teaching approach.

It is envisaged that the page will be largely static once the unit is underway with no new additions. Moodle integration with Unit Preview / Handbook allows key information to be automatically integrated and displayed in the Unit information tab. The Unit synopsis, Learning Outcomes headings reflect the relevant entries in the Handbook and Unit Preview for the unit.

Welcome	Add a welcome message here for students in the unit. Including a short video is good for building a sense of personal connection.
Unit resources	This section links to the handbook entry and the Moodle unit preview. You can also use this section is used to link to the Library reading list and other resources for the unit. For units with activities being recorded, educators must add specific text into Moodle to let students know that some activities in the unit are being recorded. Add the following text at the bottom of the Unit resources section: At least one lecture and/or seminar in this unit will be recorded and made available for the purpose of revision and to provide one off alternative options for students who may have missed a teaching activity. The recordings are intended to be used solely by students enrolled in this unit. While these recordings are a valuable resource for revision, they are not intended as a substitute for the learning experience and interaction offered by attending face to face classes. Learning capture	A learning capture link will automatically be added to the Unit Information section. You will need to manually link the tool to your Moodle unit.
Unit synopsis	This section will be automatically populated from the handbook entry.
Learning outcomes	This section will be automatically populated from the handbook entry.
Teaching approach	Use this section to describe the teaching approach that will be adopted in the unit eg. learning will be active, students will be asked to interact with each other and with their teaching team, this approach is used because… etc.

How to add unit information

The welcome message is a place for you to personalise and set the tone for the unit. Use this section to outline high level learning goals and a bit about your philosophy. Adding a welcome video in this section will greatly personalise this section and is a chance to introduce the teaching team to students.
How to add a welcome message
1. Ensure editing mode is turned on.
2. Navigate to the Welcome section.
3. Click the three dots at the right of the page and select Edit settings.
4. In the text field, enter a welcome message. You can embed images or videos here as usual with a text and media area. You can also attach files such as documents or PDFs by dragging and dropping in the Files area below the text box.
5. Click Save and return to unit.

Add unit resources

Sharing the teaching approach that students can expect in a unit allows expectations to be set and provides assurance for students prior to classes starting. For example:
- What asynchronous learning will they encounter on Moodle and how do you expect students to engage with it?
- How will their engagement with asynchronous learning activities contribute to their learning?
- Can they expect active teaching, opportunities for dialogue and discussion, chances to work with peers in small and large groups using role plays, scenarios, case studies?
- Why is the overall teaching approach important for their learning in the unit?
Describing this helps students to be prepared. It is best to frame this clearly and positively, to guide them about the approach that they will experience, inspire their excitement and invite them into learning in the unit. This is more desirable than using this section for mandating their participation or describing penalties for not completing work.
How to add a teaching approach
1. Ensure editing mode is turned on.
2. Navigate to the Teaching approach section.
3. Click the three dots at the right of the screen and select Edit settings.
4. In the text field, enter details about the unit’s teaching approach. You can embed images or videos here as usual with a text and media area. You can also attach files such as documents or PDFs by dragging and dropping in the Files area below the text box.
5. Click Save and return to unit.
Echo360 Learning Capture is integrated with Moodle, allowing easy access to lecture recordings in your Moodle unit. A learning capture link will automatically be added to the Unit Information section. You will need to manually link the tool to your Moodle unit.
1. Switch Edit mode ON(Blue) in the top right corner.
2. Navigate to the Unit information tab.
3. Scroll down to the Learning capture link. Click on the three dots and select Edit settings.
4. From the Preconfigured tool drop down list, select Automatic, based on tool URL.
5. Click Save and display.
6. You will be taken to the Connect your Echo360 Content window
7. Use the search bar and drop-down lists on the window that appears to find the Course, Term, and Section to link to, or choose it from your currently linked sections
8. Select Link to the Section Home
9. Click Link content. Your Moodle unit is now linked to the corresponding Echo360 Section
